News reporters are invited to observe Gene Discovery '98, the second high school DNA sequencing workshop conducted by Yale medical scientist, Wesley Bonds, Ph.D., and Sister Mary Jane Paolella, biotechnology instructor at Sacred Heart Academy in Hamden.

More than 40 students and teachers from New Haven area schools and students from other Connecticut towns are expected to attend the one-day workshop where they will learn to sequence a strand of DNA from Sacred Heart's human cDNA gene bank.

When: Tuesday, April 14, 1998, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The high school human genome project is a perfect miniature of the National Human Genome Project, which is comprised of scientific researchers around the world, working to map all of the 3.2 billion pairs of DNA molecules that comprise the human genome. Genomes encompass the set of 46 chromosomes that reside in human cellular nuclei and contain genetic information.
