ACS Industry Pavilion Features Chemistry's Cutting Edge

What do the man responsible for Tylenol®, the guys who designed the fastest car in the world and the brewmasters who make your favorite beer taste so good have in common?

They're all scientific pioneers whose cutting-edge research has led to profitable and widely used products with a major impact on our lives. And they're among the featured presenters at the American Chemical Society's (ACS) Industry Pavilion, located at Booth #756 in the Exhibit Hall of the Dallas Convention Center at the national meeting of the ACS, the world's largest scientific society, March 30 through April 1. Presentations and workshops will include:

Nobel laureate Julius Axelrod, who will discuss his contribution to the development of the popular pain reliever, TylenolR --Mon., March 30, 11:00 a.m. to noon;

a pharmaceutical executive who is finding a new life for the once-feared drug thalidomide as a treatment for cancer and AIDS --Mon., March 30, 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.;

the developers of the car that recently broke the land speed record --Tues., March 31, 1:00 to 2:00 p.m.;

brewmasters from Molson and Stroh, who will discuss their non-traditional careers in chemistry --Tues., March 31, 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.;

the engineers who designed GM's new electric car, a prototype of which will be on display -- Mon., March 30, 1:00 to 2:00 p.m.;

the president of Biosphere 2, who built a three-acre simulation of Earth in the Arizona desert that could tell us about the fate of our planet -- Mon., March 30, 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.

The future of the chemical industry will be addressed by a panel of senior managers from top U.S. chemical companies and investment firms who will discuss trends and how they will affect chemical industry careers. The Industry Pavilion also will feature literature, networking and computer resources.

Note: Attendance at the Pavilion is free to reporters, but a meeting registration is required for all others.
