EPSRC Publishes 1996-97 Annual Report

Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council

The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council published its 1996-97 Annual Report on 28 October 1997.

EPSRC Chairman, Dr Alan Rudge, in his introduction to the report says that EPSRC, supported by industry and the academic sector, has a strong incentive to promote the best in research and research training ...It will remain determined to serve the needs of the nation as a whole.

Professor Richard Brook, EPSRC's Chief Executive, says of the past year "it has proved challenging and we look forward to consolidating the progress and to taking forward initiatives for the future.". In the coming year there will be further refinements to EPSRC's systems will be made including developments to peer review and the evaluation of programmes and individual grants. Professor Brook continues: "New structures are planned for its Materials and Information Technology and Computer Science Programmes.".
