MAR interacts with the exon 4,5-coding region of RPL27A and increases RPL27A protein abundance via attenuating 5-FU-induced ubiquitination-mediated degradation (a). Improved RPL27A abundance facilitates the 5-FU-blocked rRNA processing (b), increases mature rRNA abundance, and promotes ribosome biogenesis and function (c), thus improving nucleolar integrity in the presence of 5-FU.
