Schematic diagram of Redox-stress Response Resistance (RRR) (IMAGE)
Caption
In response to stimulation, young cells produce H2O2 and transduce signals through a PRDX2-based redox relay, thereby activating RRC. However, in senescent cells, the increase in PRDX2 hyperoxidation leads to a decrease in its sensor activity, revealing a resistance characteristic of low H2O2 sensitivity and leading to RRC decline. The resistance state is similar to insulin resistance due to the lower insulin receptor sensitivity. Researchers named this insulin-resistance-like phenomenon in senescent cells Redox-stress Response Resistance (RRR).
