Laser machining fundamentals: from mechanisms to applications (IMAGE)
Caption
The mechanisms involved in photo-induced material removal, particularly at nanometric and atomic scales, are first explained. Then, the effects of electronic excitation, material defects and laser parameters, along with theoretical simulation methods, are discussed. Typical examples of nano- and atomic-scale structures fabricated by laser processing are provided, highlighting the appeal to atomic and close-to-atomic scale manufacturing.
