Researchers monitored the gene expression of more than 100,000 individual cells from the prefrontal cortices of mice—shown here clustered and colored by cell type. Excessive alcohol exposure changed the patterns of gene expression in the brains of mice genetically predisposed to Alzheimer’s, and these changes were associated with accelerated cognitive decline.
