A pine pollen grain, collected on the DESY campus, a diatom, and a blue-green alga imaged using Compton scattering X-ray microscopy. The pictures are maps of the inelastic X-ray scattering, proportional to the density of the material at each point, and have a resolution down to 70 nm.
