The U.S. nuclear power fleet—93 operating reactors across 28 states—provides nearly 20 percent of the nation’s electricity. According to an analysis for the Department of Energy’s Office of Nuclear Energy, these reactors have a combined carbon value of $500 billion with each gigawatt (about one reactor) worth $5 billion in climate mitigation costs savings.
