When mice are fear-conditioned, they exhibit a marked increase in the percentage of freezing time on days 1, 6 and 7. However, psilocybin (PSI, 2.5 mg/kg), the active component in magic mushrooms, can reduce these negative changes. This hints at the potential of psilocybin to treat fear-based disorders, such as post-traumatic stress disorder. Note: ‘Veh’ means ‘untreated’.
