Cbf1 bound to DNA and histones (IMAGE)
Caption
New research by researchers at Penn State and Ohio State helps explain how proteins called pioneer factors are able to open up the typically dense genetic material within our cells, packaged into complexes called nucleosomes. This image depicts the molecular structure of the yeast Cbf1 pioneer factor interacting with both DNA and histone components of the nucleosome.
