(IMAGE) Doshisha University Caption The synapses between the hypothalamic supramammillary nucleus (SuM) and the granule cells (GCs) of the dentate gyrus (DG) in the hippocampus exhibit a particular type of plasticity, called associative long-term potentiation (LTP), finds a new study by scientists from Doshisha University, Japan. This plasticity is mediated by the release of the neurotransmitter glutamate, but not by the neurotransmitter GABA.
