As participants encoded emotional words into memory (e.g., 'KNIFE'), fast brain oscillations increased in the hippocampus and amygdala. However, when they fail to encode emotional words, or encoded a neutral words (e.g., 'CHAIR'), these fast oscillations were smaller.
