Experimental setup schematic: two laser pulses, a fundamental wave (FW) and a second harmonic (SH) wave, to excite hydrogen molecules to the Rydberg state. The individual contributions of the field and photon effects of the laser pulses are determined by measuring the Rydberg state yields of H2 molecules for different circular polarizations and strengths (intensity) of each pulse.
