The caterpillar of the cabbage white butterfly (Pieris brassicae) has two gut enzymes to target and disarm the major defense mechanism of cruciferous plants, the mustard oil bomb. Depending on the toxin defense composition of their host plants, larvae can flexibly utilize these two detoxification enzymes.
