CF Airways - ASO Treatment (IMAGE)
Caption
Cystic fibrosis is caused by mutations in the cystic fibrosis transmembrane regulator (CFTR) gene that disrupt normal CFTR expression and function as a membrane chloride channel, leading to thick mucus buildup in the airways of the lungs. Antisense oligonucleotide (ASO) treatment modifies CFTR gene expression leading to increased expression of a modified protein with retained channel function (CFTR*).
