Killer cells get better with age (IMAGE)
Caption
Dr. Annette Lis (R) and Dorina Zöphel (L) of Saarland University are studying how the activity of killer cells changes as the cells age. Up until now it had been widely assumed that the ability of killer T cells to destroy tumour cells and pathogens would deteriorate with age. It turns out, however, that the opposite is true – they become better killers, the older they get.
