According to different mechanisms of the particle growth, the synthesis process is divided into three sequential periods, namely, Period 1, when the Pt4+ ions are reduced to Pt nanoparticles; Period 2, when Pt nanoparticles react with the Ce2(CN2)3 to form Pt5Ce; and Period 3, when the Pt5Ce particles grow further due to the prolonged heat-treatment at 650 °C.
