Tob遺伝子を欠失させると、恐怖や抑うつを示す行動が誘発された。これは、海馬と前頭前野の機能的なつながりが変化していることを示す。またTob遺伝子欠失で、海馬の神経細胞は興奮し、抑制されなかった。また、他の遺伝子やタンパク質の発現もTob遺伝子の支配を受けていた。
