Human activity has forced an imbalance of the nitrogen cycle, resulting in an abundance of harmful nitrogen products circulating through atmospheric, marine and land ecosystems. Electrocatalysis may offer the solution and balance the nitrogen cycle, if researchers can answer critical research questions.
