The scientists found that mLOY causes overproduction of fibrosis-promoting substances, thereby increasing the chance of heart failure. Tissue fibrosis is a major cause of death among the elderly. Men with mLOY are found to live shorter lives than men without mLOY, and they are thought to be more prone to Alzheimer’s disease, solid tumors, and heart attacks, as well as other age-related diseases.
