Neurovascular injury from SARS-CoV-2 (IMAGE)
Caption
Researchers found that SARS-CoV-2 infection can trigger the production of immune molecules that damage cells lining blood vessels in the brain. This causes platelets to stick together and form clots. At the same time, blood proteins leak from the blood vessels causing neuroinflammation and the destruction of neurons.
