A comprehensive perspective in the main strategies that boost the CO2RR performance of metal-organic ensembles via modulation of metal centers and ligands, the catalyst-support interaction, as well as their in situ reconstructions was summarized. Outlook regarding targeted synthesis of new molecules, MOFs and supports, their large-scale applications, tracking and tailoring the catalyst reconstruction and unraveling the structure-property relationship were discussed.
