Effects of dialkynylcarbinols on HSD17B11-expressing cancer cells (IMAGE)
Caption
This image shows the effects of dialkynylcarbinols on HSD17B11-expressing cancer cells. Multiple vacuoles (green) are formed as faulty proteins accumulate in the endoplasmic reticulum, a cell compartment where some complex proteins are produced. The mitochondria, which produces energy for the cells (red), shows signs of fragmentation, in a process called mitochondrial fission, before becoming more permeable. This ultimately leads to controlled cell death.
