Dry Blood Spot card (IMAGE) North Carolina State University Caption A recent study from North Carolina State University finds that “dry blood spot” sampling, or DBS, is comparable to techniques that use larger blood samples and require immediate cold storage – technology that is not always available when monitoring animals in the wild. The researchers used DBS, which uses cards like the one pictured here, is an effective means of measuring health indicators in elephants.
