Figure 1. Multistructural photoacoustic (PA) and ultrasound (US) images of the right foot of a 33-year-old adult male, resulting in four structural images: US skin, US bone, US vessel, and PA vessel. Examples of combining the structural images as needed are images 5 and 6. Image 5 is the maximum intensity projection (MIP) image viewed from above. Image 6 is the cross-sectional image of the part that is indicated by the dotted line in image 5. Images 7 and 8 are colored images of 3 and 4 according to the depth of the blood vessels. Red indicates shallowness and increases in depth as it gets bluer.
