Wilted Tobacco Plant (IMAGE) Max Planck Institute for Chemical Ecology Caption Tobacco plants that died of root rot. The disease, which is probably caused by fungal pathogens, attacked the plants in their field plot in the Lytle Preserve, Utah, USA: plants wilted and died within only a few days. Treating infected plants is impossible. Other plant species in the field were unharmed.
