University of Utah social psychologist Lisa Aspinwall, philosopher James Tabery and legal scholar Teneille Brown have published a study showing that while judges are more likely to impose higher sentences on criminals who are psychopaths, they reduce the sentence somewhat when expert testimony is presented explaining the biological causes of psychopathy.
