Mosquito Biting Genes (IMAGE) University of Oregon Caption Pitcher plant mosquitoes (Wyeomyia smithii) rest on their favorite habitat, pitcher plants. Scientists have sorted out which genes are associated with biting and non-biting in this mosquito species. Eventually, the researchers hope it will be possible to shut down blood-feeding behavior in all mosquitoes, rendering them incapable of spreading numerous diseases.
