Immunofluorescence in human cancer cells shows a cytoplasmic localization of Abraxas R361Q mutant (lower panel, red) while the wild type (WT) Abraxas protein is nuclear (upper panel, red). This aberrant localization decreases the ability of the protein to form nuclear foci and reduces the recruitment of BRCA1(green) to DNA breaks after ionizing irradiation. Merge of the red and green channels along with the nuclei labelled in blue highlights the cytoplasmic localization of Abraxas R361Q.
