Blueprint for a Microchip (IMAGE) University of Chicago Caption A microchip designed by Fukun Tang, senior electronics engineer at the University of Chicago, as part of an effort to measure the velocity of subatomic particles much better than before. An improved capability to measure particle velocity would benefit Positron Emission Tomography technology as well as research in high-energy particle physics. The chip measures 850 microns across -- the width of approximately a dozen human hairs lying side by side. Credit Image courtesy of the Electronics Design Group, University of Chicago.
