Buying and the Ventromedial Prefrontal Cortex (IMAGE)
Caption
In this figure, fMRI data show which areas of the brain are active as a study subject either experiences an emotion or tries to modify it. The ventromedial prefrontal cortex (labeled vmPFC) becomes more active as a person experiences more positive feelings. Panel A shows how the vmPFC was activated by positive images and positive regulation of thoughts. Panel B shows activation by all types of images, positive and negative, and indicates that vmPFC was activated by positive experiences in both experiments.
