Squash Bee (<i>Peponapis pruinosa</i>)

Using genetic markers, researchers have found that the spread of the squash bee in pre-Columbian Central and North America was tied to the spread of squash agriculture. This is the first time researchers have been able to show how cultivating a specific crop led to the expansion of a pollinator species.
