Bahama Oriole (IMAGE) University of Maryland Baltimore County Caption This Bahama Oriole is perched in a pine tree on Andros Island in the Bahamas, the only place these birds live. New research has demonstrated that these orioles frequently inhabit and nest in the rugged pine forest on Andros, when they were previously believed to live primarily in human-dominated habitats. New research also suggests that the total population of these birds is several thousand individuals, which is at least 10 times what earlier work estimated. The results offer hope for this critically endangered species and will inform future conservation efforts in the Caribbean.
