This map shows the locations of the 18 arboreta and universities in the PopUp Poplars partnership, funded by the National Science Foundation. The huge experiment is being spearheaded by Penn State, Virginia Tech, the University of Vermont and the University of Maryland. Lead researcher Jill Hamilton, director of the Schatz Center for Tree Molecular Genetics in the College of Agricultural Sciences, is shown in the inset.
