Big Creek Wildfire Simulation (IMAGE) University of Washington Caption The model used in the study simulates past and future wildfires in California’s drought-prone Sierra Nevada region, using the actual landscape of the Big Creek watershed outside Fresno, California. The model simulates soil moisture, plant growth and wildfires for past conditions and in 60-year projections of future climate, with the dial at the upper left showing rising temperatures. Results show a decade-long burst of severe wildfires, followed by recurring wildfires that gradually get smaller.
