An atmospheric river event on Jan. 17, 2017, depicted by total atmospheric precipitable water (mm) from (top) observations and (bottom) a 27 km resolution regional climate model hindcast simulation. Berkeley Lab climate scientists will use climate modeling methods they used in previously published peer-reviewed research to assess how climate change will affect the severity of future San Francisco Bay Area storms.
