RAMBO Pulse Magnet (IMAGE) Rice University Caption A golf ball-sized, 30-tesla pulse magnet created by Tohoku University's Hiroyuki Nojiri for the original Rice Advanced Magnet with Broadband Optics (RAMBO). For RAMBO-II, Nojiri's team will create 50-tesla magnets about the same size. The magnets are designed to allow lasers to be directed at samples inside, a key feature for coupling strong magnetic fields and spectroscopy with ultrashort laser pulses ranging from terahertz to extreme ultraviolet.
