Cell Cycle (IMAGE) Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology Caption G0 is the resting phase when the cell does not undergo division. G1 refers to the phase in the cycle when the cell prepares for division by duplicating its constituent parts, with the exception of the chromosomes. During the S phase, the DNA is copied in a process duplicating all 46 chromosomes. G2 is the final stage in the preparation for division, or mitosis.
