Immune Systems (VIDEO) Babraham Institute This video is under embargo. Please login to access this video. Caption Every individual has a unique immune system, something which can be visualised as a unique location in "immunological space". Our immune systems are also dynamic, with minor differences on a day-to-day basis. The animation illustrates what happens to the immune systems of two individuals in a relationship. Their movement correspond to changes in their immune systems and the specific immunological space they occupy, shown as depressions in the underlying grid. These movements reflects the minor variations in the two immune systems over time. The biggest shapers of our immune systems are age, with a gradual aging of the immune system over time, and cohabitation, where having a child together causes the unique immune signature of each individual to come much closer. This is illustrated in the animation by the introduction of a child (pink flash) upon which the two individuals become significantly closer in the immunological space.
