This is a fluorescent microscopy picture of cells of a human macrophage cell line (THP-1), which was incubated with particles (beads) stained with a blue and a red dye; the red dye is only active in an acid environment. The overlay of the blue and the red color appears as purple. The cells were fixed and stained with an antibody against SLC4A7, this staining is depicted in yellow. The nuclei which were stained with DAPI are depiced in blue. © CeMM/Ruth Eichner
