A live-cell visualization of the production of USP18 (green), the inhibitory factor that mediates cell refractorines--or loss of sensitivity--to interferon treatments. The red arrow points to the cell with low USP18 fluorescent reporter expression and the green arrow points to the cell with high USP18 reporter expression. Researchers have designed strategies to enrich the proportion of cells with lower USP18 production and thereby higher responsiveness to interferon.
