Jonathan Runstadler, assistant professor of biology and wildlife at the Institute of Arctic Biology at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, is shown in Chevak, Ala., sampling Black Brant geese in 2005 as part of UAF's avian influenza research program. UAF received $3.8M as part of a $18.5M grant from the National Institutes of Health Center of Excellence for Influenza Research and Surveillance grant made to the University of California, Los Angeles.
