Nanowires Coated with Quantum Dots

A scanning electron microscope image, with color added, shows vanadium oxide nanowires coated with tiny semiconductor crystals called quantum dots. This combination of materials has shown promise for splitting water into oxygen and hydrogen fuel, which could be used to power cars, buses, boats and other modes of transportation.
