Stroma (IMAGE) Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory Caption The stroma that surrounds a tumor is a complex neighborhood of varying cells and connective tissues that oftentimes gets in the way of anti-cancer treatment options. By investigating the various molecules sent by the tumor to these surrounding cells, researchers in Tuveson lab were able to determine which signals encourage fibroblast cells to protect or hinder the tumor.
