Video of Lipid Formation in Sweat Glands of Mouse (VIDEO)
Caption
As sweat glands cells turn over, older cells are gradually pushed to the center of the glands and expelled from the body. Here, deuterium-labeled SRS imaging highlighted newly made lipids at the outer edges of a mouse's sweat glands (upper left and lower right). Older cells in an interior sweat gland (lower left) showed less growth of new lipids, suggesting the technique could be used to detect aging-related disease like Alzheimer's.
