Caption This 3-D rendering of the wasabi receptor first rotates to show all four parts, or subunits, colored yellow, green, blue, and red for clarity. The structure then begins to rotate to show the top of the receptor. The open channel at the top of the receptor, through which ions such as potassium and calcium pass from outside the cell, is clearly visible at about 00:18. The structure then rotates to show the bottom of the receptor, and the other end of the channel, which resides inside the cell, is visible at about 00:25. Credit Courtesy of UC San Francisco.
