The Centauro robot consists of a four-legged base and an anthropomorphic upper body. It is capable of performing robust locomotion and harsh interactions that may be necessary during disaster relief tasks. It is also able to break wood pieces. It is developed within the framework of the research project Centauro funded by the European Commission. The Centauro robot hardware, software architecture and whole body control framework were completely designed and realized at IIT-Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia.
