Once considered one of the most abundant apex predators on Earth, overfishing has caused huge declines in oceanic whitetip sharks, and they are listed by the International Union for Conservation of Nature as “Critically Endangered” in the Northwest and Central Atlantic and “Vulnerable” globally.
