Active and Inactive STIM1 — Caption

Microscope images of the regulatory protein STIM1-- labelled genetically with a green fluorescent tag-- in the same cell before stimulation (left panel) and after stimulation (right panel). STIM1 relocalizes, when the cell is stimulated, to sites where it can gate the calcium channel ORAI1. The mechanism that initiates this STIM1 movement was the focus of the two studies.
